Tiofarma Selects Ci-DMS for Weigh and Dispense Operations

Tiofarma, together with its sister companies, has selected CI Precision’s Ci-DMS Weigh and Dispense software as part of the renewal and expansion of its manufacturing facility in Oud-Beijerland, near Rotterdam. One of the Netherlands’ leading pharmaceutical specialists and contract manufacturers, Tiofarma produces a wide range of solid, semi-solid and liquid dosage forms for hospitals, pharmacies and commercial partners. Ci-DMS will be integrated with Tiofarma’s wider business IT infrastructure to improve control, traceability, and electronic recording across weigh-and-dispense operations. The system will support the dispensing of raw materials, intermediates and packaging materials for each production batch while helping standardise workflows and support cGMP compliance. The implementation will also improve stock visibility, material traceability and operational efficiency across the facility. Jan Altena, Project Manager Systems at Tiofarma, explains that Ci-DMS will replace the existing system with a more advanced and connected platform.

Ci-DMS guides operators through each weighing process using step-by-step instructions, including material-specific health and safety controls. Barcode verification is used throughout the workflow, from incoming goods through to production, while the system creates a complete electronic record of dispensing activities. Jan adds:

“Ci-DMS has onboard web services that allow open-standard integration with other software, making retrieval of production and process data straightforward.”

Following an evaluation process, Tiofarma selected Ci-DMS based on its operational fit, process flexibility and ability to support future development requirements.

The system also provides the foundation for future implementation of CI Precision’s Nexa electronic batch record modules, supporting Tiofarma’s transition towards paperless manufacturing operations. Working closely with Tiofarma’s quality team, CI Precision will complete the installation using proven validation templates to support GAMP-aligned validation and cGMP compliance. Highlighting the importance of the project partnership, Hans Waals adds:
